Elves in Space!!! (draft)

[tonight’s stream ended up featuring a couple different projects but we started out with our sci-fi elven adventure, so i threw it in the Elves in Space folder. We didn’t end up making the sort of progress i would’ve wanted, but i’m still happy to have chatted with y’all ❤ ]

Astrophel shook his head. He wasn’t going to run back to his family now, even digitally.  He was here to cultivate his independence.

He logged out of Wyvern.

There! That way, he’d need to reset his password to log back in again.  And he wasn’t going through all that crap for some memes.

[save Monaver for Lord Aysu and Lady Auromme’s daughter]

[they also have twins, i imagine]

[oh this reminds me, i have to edit out the ranks. oh damn i also have to completely redo astrophel’s reaction to jetsa… (came up with some backstory off-stream) been thinking i should pare down that initial convo anyway, now’s a good excuse to play around with it.]

[my goal is to stream longer tonight. i dunno i think 11’s a good start. we’ll see about midnight and beyond when we get there.]

[i need to organize my story cards tomorrow]

Astrophel had intended to read some more of his grandmother’s star travels, but he must’ve fallen asleep; because the next thing he knew, morning had arrived.

~

“Incoming Rapid, this is Lunla Warrior Jetsa, they / she / he. Who are you and are you well?” said the person on the line. “You shields have taken heavy damage.”

Jetsa themself.

Jetsa???

Jetsa!?

[actually i don’t like this either. maybe jetsa should stay jetsa and they should just be different characters??? i think i do need a “generic” warrior character anyway? by generic i more mean a non-distinguished one / a younger one. alright yeah, that’s what i’ll do.]

“Incoming Rapid here. I’m Prince Astrophel, he / they. I just went through an asteroid field, it’s fine. We’re fine now.”

“Prince Astrophel?” they asked.

“Yes,” he said.

“In a Rapid? Isn’t that more your brother’s model?” she said.

“He let me borrow it,” he said.

“Prince Astrophel, do you have a copilot with you?” Jetsa asked.

“No, I’m on my own,” he said. “Well, I have a cleaning robot with me.”

“Beep beep!” it chirped.

“You went through an asteroid field all on your own,” Captain Jetsa said. “In a Rapid.”

“Yes!” Astrophel was very tired and starting to become very irritated. He could do things on his own!

“Prince Astrophel, why are you here?” they asked.

“I. am on. my star travels.”

There was a pause. It lasted long enough that Astrophel wondered if Captain Jetsa left the line.

“Prince Astrophel,” Captain Jetsa said when he finally returned, “proceed to landing dock eight, if you would.”

“Thank you,” he said.

“You’re very welcome. Good luck on your star travels. Lord Aysu and Lady Auromme will meet you there.”

~

[oh boy this file’s gonna be fun to clean up, i can tell]

[ONCE MORE WITH FEELING]

“Incoming Rapid, this is Lunla Warrior Jetsa, they / she / he. Who are you and are you alright?” said the person on the line. “You shields have taken heavy damage.”

“Incoming Rapid here. I’m Prince Astrophel, he / they. I just went through an asteroid field. We’re fine now.”

“Prince Astrophel?” they asked.

“Yes,” he said.

“In a Rapid? Isn’t that more your brother’s model?” she said.

“He let me borrow it,” he said.

“Prince Astrophel, do you have copilot with you?” Captain Jetsa asked.

“No, I’m on my own,” he said.

“Beep beep!” the stowaway chirped.

He rolled his eyes and added, “Well, I have a cleaning robot with me.”

After a pause, Jetsa said, “…You went through an asteroid field all on your own. In a Rapid.”

“Yes!” Astrophel was very tired and starting not to feel bad about showing how irritated he’d become. He could do things on his own!

“Prince Astrophel, why are you here?” they asked.

“I. am on. my star travels.”

There was a pause. It lasted long enough that Astrophel wondered if Jetsa left the line.  Astrophel was annoyed enough to leave the line himself, honestly.

“Prince Astrophel,” Jetsa said when he finally returned, “proceed to landing dock eight, if you would.”

“Thank you,” he said.

“You’re very welcome. Good luck on your star travels. Lord Aysu and Lady Auromme will meet you there.”

[OH THAT’S RIGHT HE’S WEARING HIS SUNGLASSES]

~

“You’re not very good at lying, kid,” said the space warrior. Astrophel recognized their voice as Jetsa’s.

~

Lord Aysu bore into Astrophel’s eyes. Astophel was glad he was wearing his glasses.

~

[i wonder if this thing i have in mind, i could save it for solla? i meant it to be the obstacle on the way to solla anyway…]

[ugh but then what do we do here in lunla tho x_x this was my one idea]

~

[okay well let’s just skip to solla then]

[oh shit i gotta come up with names. fuck.]

[oooh i like aldebrand]

[ugh i spilled my drink on my laptop and now it’s sticky RIP texture]

Fytalla?

Auromacas

Auromos

Fytala

[alright that’s fine]

“You’ve never seen true combat, have you?” Auromos asked him at dinner.

Astophel shook his head, “No, sir.”

Auromos nodded.

[oh should Auromos be doing this or Fytala?]

[“Never seen true combat, have you?” Fytala asked him at dinner. “Fight for your life, ever have you?”]

“Have you ever seen true combat?” Fytala asked him at dinner. “Have you ever fought for your life?”

Astrophel shook his head, “No, ma’am.”

“If I know my cousin, I doubt he’d let such a thing befall either of his sons,” Auromos added.

[i kinda wanna write the fantasy version of this story…… well since this clearly isn’t going anywhere XD ]

[fuck. i forgot to account for the first sentence curse]

Stellanios

[nope]

The sun setting over the forest would never not dazzle Astrophel with its beauty.  Especially in autumn  The way the leaves seemed to light on fire, as if Flarenheit herself had decided to swoop down and brush against them with her wings.  Astrophel was happy to see it once again.

[“Alright, kid, we should head back,” Estellano said, hanging out in a nearby tree. “You know Dad’s probably itching to sound the alarm.”

“Oh, yes,” Astrophel snickered with him. As they climbed down, Astrophel asked. “But what if we didn’t go back?  What if we went to Mt. Blackvein instead?”

“Mt. Blackvein?” Estellano gave him a look. “What do you wanna do there, get eaten by a dragon?”

“It’s been 300 years, it might be dead.”

“I dunno, little guy, dragons live for a thousand years.  Folks who were there say it looked 500 then.”

“Oh,” Astrophel let the venture go.]

[no]

“What’s out there, kid?” Estellano’s voice rang clear, even from the forest floor.  Astrophel took a look around, remembering what he’d been sent up here to do.

“All’s clear, captain!” Astrophel jumped down from the treetops, sending leaves flying all over everybody when he landed.

Estellano waved leaves out of his face, spluttering.  He quickly got ahold of himself. “Don’t call me captain, I’m your brother.  And don’t jump down from that high, you’ll break something!”

“Yes, sir, Captain Brother!” Astrophel said with a grin.

“And now you know how the rest of us felt,” Captain [fuuuuuuuuuuuuck my legs for a name] Zobran said to Estellano.

“I know I never jumped from the trees!” Estellano said.

“No, but you did jump from Moonwood’s topmost waterfall,” she said.

Estellano rolled his eyes at all the warriors snickering at his expense.

“Listen, we’re both princes, okay?” Estellano said to Astrophel. “You’ll get your own command soon, I’m sure.  Zo’s right; you’re nowhere near as much trouble as I was.”

[no]

[well…]

[i might end at 10 actually. my brain is in a thousand different directions and it’s not focusing on any one idea. and while i’m certainly not new to having multiple WIPs going on at once, i at least like to know what i’m streaming.]

[but we finished a quest in 4theWords 😀 that’s exciting :3 ]

[okay cool we’ll fetch all those another day]

[fuck why did i commit to a majal?]

“You okay up there, kid?” Estellano’s voice rang clear even from the forest floor.  Astrophel looked around, remembering what he’d been sent up here to do.

“All’s clear, Captain!” he said.

“Don’t call me ‘captain’, i’m your brother!  We’re both princes, you’ll earn your command soon enough.”

Astrophel [frowned and] made a noncomittal noise.  It felt like he’d just started patrolling with his brother and Captain Zobran a week ago.  [He wasn’t ready for a command role yet!]  He wasn’t ready to lead yet!

[no i don’t like this either]

~~~
[and now for something completely different]
Yhylone was stargazing on the balcony with Bicewyla.  The first stars had just started to pop into view.
“Are you going to wish for anything?” Yhylone asked.
Bicewyla gave him a strange look.  Yhylone averted his gaze.
“We wish on stars for stuff…” Yhylone wanted to redact the explanation as soon as he gave it.  Bicewyla clearly thought it was silly.
“…Oh! You mean humans!” Bicewyla said. “You don’t need to ask the stars, you can just ask Alo!  He’ll get you whatever you want!  Unless he’s being mean…”
Yhylone gave Bicewyla an unimpressed look.  Bicewyla had never experienced cruelty in his life.  He didn’t know what a mean parent was.  Not that Yhylone hoped he ever would…  Bicewyla wasn’t old enough for archy lessons yet, and that was a perfectly reasonable reason to deny him.
Yhylaro arrived to collect them for bedtime.  Bicewyla ran right into his arms and said, “Yhylone says that humans wish on stars!  So I told him he can just ask you for what he wants instead. Unless it’s archery lessons…”
“Well, yes, he most certainly can,” Yhylaro chuckled.  He offered his other arm to Yhylone.
Yhylone went over to them.  As Yhylaro tucked them in and read to them that night, Yhylone thought about Bicewyla’s words.
Bicewyla was right, Yhylone didn’t need the stars.  The stars never got him anything anyway.  They were just another lie that humans had told him.
[one day i’m gonna keep creating for this language i started last year(?) at least i think it was last year. i might’ve started it earlier this no wait it was definitely last year. time is just all together now XD ]
[i still got over 100 words left ewwwww]
[alright let’s do something with 100 words!!]
[so we didn’t make the progress i was hoping tonight, but we got a mini scene that was on my mind out there on the page. that’s nice ^-^ and we started and restarted the fantasy elves a bunch of times XD just testing things out, seeing what direction i wanna go in. that whole don’t call me captain joke was funny when i was thinking about it, but now that i’ve committed to no ranks among the elven warriors, it feels wrong. it’s all militaristic and that’s not the tone i appreciate in my literature anymore :/ ]
[alright let’s raid somebody! thanks for coming out, everyone ❤ ]
