Interview with kay “probskay” idoldestroyer

kay (they/them) is a queer writer. I asked them about themself and their content, as well as content they’ve been enjoying recently. You can check out kay at the links at the end of the interview.

  1. What queer terminology do you use for yourself publicly? Do not feel pressured to come out as anything in your answer. Please only disclose whatever you’re comfortable with.
    • Oh boy, the public. Well, to strangers I just say that I’m nonbinary, asexual and aromantic, and I use they/them pronouns.
    • To people I trust a bit more I’ll tell I’m bigender and a lesbian.
    • To those I really trust, they unlock my cool secret gender, Burning. I’m not gonna talk about Burning any further here but that’s the unlock you get for getting the good ending.
  2. What non-queer demographic terminology do you use for yourself? Again, please only disclose whatever you’re comfortable with.
    • This question makes me realise how intensely my queerness defines me. Well, I am white, and that usually comes up. I’m also in my early 20’s. I’m an atheist, and the only reason I haven’t converted to Judaism is because I can’t believe in a god and also love making jokes at the expense of the existence of a god. I’m also a college student, if that counts for anything.
  3. What projects are you involved in? This can be any type of content you’d like to promote.
    • What AREN’T I involved in? Well, I’m a rapper, a writer, a video essayist, a tabletop RPG designer, a volunteer social media manager, hobbyist visual artist and photographer, and if there’s an art form I haven’t stuck my grubby little fingers into then I’ll be surprised.
    • Currently, I’ve recently released a video on youtube about how Scott Pilgrim: the graphic novel series is bad and should be criticised.
    • My next video is going to be about that author’s next work, Seconds, which I liked quite a bit better.
    • I’m also running @miamiblaseball, a team account for the internet ARG Blaseball.
    • I’m designing a horror tabletop RPG inspired by early survival horror games, especially Silent Hill, titled “This City Hates You”.
    • In the background, I’m extremely slowly working on writing a book.
    • I also post micro video essays on TikTok under the username probskay.
    • You can read a ton of my short stories at my own website. I write a lot of horror, and a lot of generally very queer fiction. A lot of this social media stuff will probably be rehashed down at the bottom, and it might be better to just keep it isolated down there. I do a lot.
  4. What do you enjoy doing when you’re not creating content?
    • Digging a very wide yet shallow hole and laying in it for hours at a time.
    • Okay, actually, it’s usually just playing video games.
    • I also run two different TTRPG campaigns, and that’s fun.
    • I’m also big on media criticism, and just thinking about stories and what makes them cool/bad (in case the video essayist thing didn’t clue you in).
    • Participating in the cultural event of Blaseball is kind of a past time, but I’ve written multiple pieces of fan fiction for it, drawn a few pieces of fan art, run a twitter account for it, and written two fantastic essays on Blaseball as well, so I guess that only half counts? I really like making things.
  5. What does the queer community needs to do better about understanding, accepting, and supporting?
    • Please, for the fucking love of god, go outside and talk to queer people around you. You’ll realise that the annoying queers aren’t bi lesbians and people use multiple, complicated labels. They’re actually just Tammie, the person who won’t shut the fuck up and stop trying to take the attention away from literally everyone else at all times while also treating everyone like footstools for her own life and claiming that she can’t be held accountable for her actions because she has depression and anxiety. You’ll be a lot more sympathetic to that otherkin who uses weird neopronouns.
    • Also, if you want to complain about pride, go to your local pride first and complain about that pride. Shut up about pride as if it’s a monolith.
  6. What are you excited about going forward? Can be anything from creative projects, personal or professional milestones, etc.
    • Uh oh I might’ve already talked about this in number 3. Well, I’m also excited about a phat scholarship check I’m gonna get this coming fall semester.
    • I’m also finally going to get my drivers license, making me the first queer ever who can do math, dance and drive.
    • Next year, I also graduate from college with an English degree, so that’ll be cool!
    • Right now I’m at a bit of a liminal part of my life, so if I’m not taking the little victories from putting out raps, essays, and other small stuff then I have basically nothing to celebrate.
    • Also I’ve been growing my hair out since early 2018, and it just recently got long enough to cover my nipples and I love that for me.
  7. Are there any pets or plants in your life?
    • The only petting I do is with your mom 😎. I have a cat named Roscoe and he’s a little bastard. I will be taking no further questions.
  8. What content / content creators have you been enjoying recently? This could be anything from books, to podcasts, to tutorial videos, etc. Anything you want other people to know about.
    • Transparency on youtube are absolutely phenomenal video essayists that always inspire me to work on my own videos and make my own shit. They’re really good.
    • Also, shout out to my fucking boy Josue V. He’s most active on twitter as @JosueZYV and on tiktok as josuezyvilla. He’s also on youtube as JV Radio Review. While he hasn’t put out a video in a bit I think about what he has put out a lot. He’s great.
    • Also, in case it isn’t clear that my life has been consumed by Blaseball: play Blaseball.
  9. What is your favorite thing about yourself?
    • What isn’t my favorite thing about myself? If you aren’t your biggest fan you’re wasting your time. I mean, obviously take a seat and self-reflect, but also hype yourself up and be confident.
