Quentin Baird (he/him) is a queer writer, game dev, and gaming streamer. I asked him about himself and his content, as well as content he’s been enjoying recently. You can check out Quentin Baird at the links at the end of the interview.
- What queer terminology do you use for yourself publicly? Do not feel pressured to come out as anything in your answer. Please only disclose whatever you’re comfortable with.
- I’m gay, pretty comfortable saying that, still on the border of pansexual but for now gay seems the best fir.
- What non-queer demographic terminology do you use for yourself? Again, please only disclose whatever you’re comfortable with.
- Nerd, Punk, Game Dev? Honestly, I just usually refer to myself as an idiot, lol. Titles and I are usually weird.
- What projects are you involved in? This can be any type of content you’d like to promote.
- Mages and Mythos is a TTRPG I’m writing with my fiancĂ©e, Professor Xenon. Its a mix of high fantasy/magic and the beginnings of technology and how that fits in the world. We’ve gotten the first books content practically done, just working through some details before we start working on editing with my buddy Sprout.
- Then there’s The Cracked Planet, my tactical rpg set in a sci-fi universe. The main cast starts out as 6 damaged humans, who end up on the far side of the universe and with a very diverse cast of aliens basically become bounty hunters to fund getting home. Its got a lot of my personal traumas peppered in it, so its been cathartic writing it.
- Finally, I’m working on something that I can only describe as a boomer shooter meets Kings Field.
- What do you enjoy doing when you’re not creating content?
- Big gamer, Zombies ate my Neighbors getting a collectors edition release just broke me and I generally love just bizarre retro titles or super unique ones.
- I also love introducing Professor Xenon to new movies and stuff he never got to experience.
- Holy crap we can do karaoke again!!! (I like to sing).
- What does the queer community needs to do better about understanding, accepting, and supporting?
- I feel like there’s an “Us vs Them” mentality now, where stuff like, “Well our community is ok so why should we help marginalized people?” I’ve heard almost hate-fueled comments in gay bars in Minneapolis since Covid restrictions lifted and I can’t fathom not fighting for my trans brothers and sisters or my African American siblings. The last year here has been a hot bed of violence on the African American community and some local gays have just been shockingly evil about it all.
- It angers me, but I try to help where I can. There’s no excuse now.
- What are you excited about going forward? Can be anything from creative projects, personal or professional milestones, etc.
- We just started streaming Mages and Mythos content and I’m hoping to help build brand… stuff before the books done. I usually code so books are a whole new ball of “what the hell am I doing?” to deal with.
- Mini creative endeavors with friends on various channels too.
- Are there any pets or plants in your life?
- 3 cats:
- Puma DelGato: Chill stream cat who will pin you down with her oppressive love.
- Goose LeChat: Who is now forcing friends to rub her belly in one very specific way.
- and Knight “Frumpkin” Artorias: Who would be a bastard, but he got really fat so it’s more of dodging a boulder than being attacked now.
- 3 cats:
- What content / content creators have you been enjoying recently? This could be anything from books, to podcasts, to tutorial videos, etc. Anything you want other people to know about.
- I feel like if I didn’t mention Civvie11 for helping renew my love of boomer shooters I wouldnt be working so hard.
- Matt Mercer for renewing my love of D&D, but Dingo Doodles for making the best treasure of a campaign ever. I mean I’d also be bad if I didn’t mention the ostentatious cart from Acquisitions Inc.
- RageHound, RockerFox, Crepsley and a few other streamers I enjoy talking to. I’m learning and following new ones pretty often too.
- What is your favorite thing about yourself?
- I always try to be better these days, when younger I was a little shit and and edge lord, now I strive to be the best me I can be. I]ve become a fan of “Be excellent to each other” from Bill and Ted. I’m always gonna be a goofy nerd, I just hope I can make someone’s day less shitty.
- …also I make really good Curry.
