Neph (they/she) is a queer artist. I asked her about themself and her content, as well as content they’ve been enjoying recently. You can check out Neph at the links at the end of the interview.
- What queer terminology do you use for yourself publicly? Do not feel pressured to come out as anything in your answer. Please only disclose whatever you’re comfortable with.
- On the internet, and to friends and parents, I’m out as nonbinary, genderfluid, bisexual, polyamourous, and married. I’ll be more than willing to date and sleep with other people but my husband is and always will be my top priority and we have veto power over each other. It’s nice.
- What non-queer demographic terminology do you use for yourself? Again, please only disclose whatever you’re comfortable with.
- I’m neurodivergent (GAD and mild depression), and I’m partly Jewish (mom’s side) and heinz 57 on my biological dad’s side, haha. For those that don’t know, Heinz 57 is basically shorthand for “idk I’m a mutt” I also suspect I have ADHD, but I have yet to get a formal diagnosis.
- What projects are you involved in? This can be any type of content you’d like to promote.
- Other than helping Gilly (my husband) with his streams and charity work, not a lot. Any projects I’m involved in I tend to take a back end role for. There’s no particular “project” I’m working on, but I am trying to power through commissions at the moment.
- Long-term, I wouldn’t mind writing about my last DnD campaign and pair it with a bunch of illustrations.
- What non-creative hobbies do you enjoy?
- Oh geez, a lot. Most often I play board games, but I also love playing TTRPGs (particularly DnD but I enjoy Paranoia and Shadowrun too,) re-watching my favorite youtubers, playing video games and listening to music. And reading if my ADHD allows.
- What does the queer community needs to do better about understanding, accepting, and supporting?
- Do not under any circumstances allow any chances for fascism to take root in what little LGBT communities you have.
- Do not be afraid to make it clear to people that any form of ultra-nationalist bigoted anti-semetic bullshit, thinly veiled or otherwise, will not be welcome. The Nazis fuckin hated LGBT folks too.
- Learn to identify bad faith arguments that happen with non-queer political discourse, especially anti-semitism, and make nipping that shit on the bud a rule. Believe me when I say when you do this, you’ll get a better quality community out of it.
- Don’t pull racist bullshit, but particularly, don’t say “I don’t see color” because goddammit, literally everything about LGBT culture is using every color in the visible color spectrum. Please, please see color. Colors are beautiful and they’re worth celebrating! I know this sounds petty but I mean. Come on.
- What are you excited about going forward? Can be anything from creative projects, personal or professional milestones, etc.
- My art is getting better and better, so I look forward to using that to make some passive income. Stickers and prints at first, maybe. I don’t know. I do have a ko-fi, and I have a SubscribeStar for my 18+ content.
- As for things that aren’t goals, in October I’ll get to see my best friend who I haven’t seen since before the pandemic. I’ve missed her bunches.
- Are there any pets or plants in your life?
- I have two cats, Cheeseball and Mina, and right now we’re trying to cultivate some strawberries and blackberries in the backyard. I also have some roses and herbs growing around the house too. I’ve got long-term gardening plans that involve using as much lawn as we can to minimize mowing.
- What content / content creators have you been enjoying recently?
- Well of course I gotta promote my husband, Gilly. @Protogilly on twitch. He does good work and loves streaming for people. There’s also SarahSelene, SolarsStardust, and as always the Hachikrew!
- What is your favorite thing about yourself?
- My willingness to help people whenever I’m able, be it getting them some small pick-me-ups or just being there for them.
