Interview with Gilly

Gilly (he/him) is a queer gaming streamer and mutual aid organizer. He recently spearheaded the fundraiser for my new streaming computer! I asked him about himself and his content, as well as content he’s been enjoying recently. You can check out Gilly at the links at the end of the interview.

1. What queer terminology do you use for yourself publicly? Do not feel pressured to come out as anything in your answer. Please only disclose whatever you’re comfortable with.
   • I’m pansexual and polyamorous. I am still closeted to my family, though.
2. What non-queer demographic terminology do you use for yourself? Again, please only disclose whatever you’re comfortable with.
   • I’m neurodivergent. ADHD, Depression, and Anxiety.
3. What projects are you involved in?
   • I run the occasional mutual aid fundraiser with the help of the wonderful community that surrounds me. The fundraising is done primarily through streams on twitch, but I also do make a fool of myself on Twitter quite a lot.
4. What non-creative hobbies do you enjoy?
   • I feel like all hobbies are creative in some way, but I do like to tinker. A bit of programming and hobbyist electronics on the side, things like that.
5. What does the queer community needs to do better about understanding, accepting, and supporting?
   • Ourselves. Each other. Seriously, the amount of infighting I see within the LGBTQ+ community is downright depressing. Too many fights about who is and isn’t “queer enough” or what identities “aren’t valid.” It’s ridiculous. I’d like to see that energy put to direct action instead.
   • Intersex people are treated like they’re diseased, polycules/throuples still can’t get married or have spousal rights due to bigamy laws, and it seems every damn day another politician is pushing yet another law to legalize harassing trans folks. These are way more important issues to be tackling right now instead of arguing whether or not a bi person in a straight relationship is queer (which by the way, yes they are.)
6. What are you excited about going forward? Can be anything from creative projects, personal or professional milestones, etc.
   • Well, your computer’s going to be shipping out soon! I’m happy to be wrapping out that project for sure. I’m going to try to run a small fundraiser this weekend to get people donating towards @hachx0’s upcoming moving expenses. Then the weekend after that I’m going to start up on designing an open-source, open-hardware Streamdeck. It’s really busy for me right now!
7. Are there any pets or plants in your life?
   • I have two lovely cats, Cheeseball and Mina. Cheeseball is sitting on my arms right now as I type this.
8. What content / content creators have you been enjoying recently? This could be anything from books, to podcasts, to tutorial videos, etc. Anything you want other people to know about.
   1. Well, first up let me shout out my polycule. Two wonderful artists, @Nephrastar and @RhiStomps on Twitter.
   2. Next, sticking to queer content creators… HeyJayDragon and AliceMoonflower are two Twitch streamers that I’ve been watching a lot lately that I don’t think get enough love. Please give them a follow!

9. What is your favorite thing about yourself?
   • I’m pretty introspective. I usually have a good handle on what I’m feeling/thinking and why.
